Managing Nearsightedness with MiSight Contact Lenses

Understanding Myopia Management

Myopia, or nearsightedness, is an increasingly common vision condition that affects your child’s distance vision.

Children with myopia can see clearly up close, but not at a distance. For example, your child may be able to read a book with ease, but struggle to see the classroom whiteboard because it’s further away from their face.

Myopia can progress over time, which can cause your child’s vision to get worse as they get older.

High Myopia can put your child at risk of developing sight-threatening conditions later in life, such as retinal detachment, cataracts, or glaucoma.

Myopia management is an innovative treatment designed to slow the progression of myopia in your child. This can protect your child’s vision as they grow up, helping them get the best view of their life!

Certified in the CooperVision MiSight Program

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses are specifically designed to help slow the progression of myopia in children.

MiSight lenses work in 2 main functions:

  • Correcting your child’s vision so they can see clearly & comfortably at every distance
  • Preventing the elongation of your child’s eyes to slow the progression of myopia

Single vision lenses have one prescription. These lenses are designed to correct your child’s central vision so they can see clearly.

However, single vision lenses don’t correct their peripheral vision, which can cause distortion or blurriness in the outer edges of their lenses. As a result, the brain may signal to the eye that it needs to elongate to compensate for this distortion and cause their myopia to progress.

MiSight 1 Day contact lenses use different treatment zones to correct your child’s vision at all angles. These zones can defocus peripheral images entering the eye and prevent the elongation of your child’s eye and, thus, the progression of myopia.

Dr. McCulley is certified through the CooperVision MiSight Program, making McCulley Optix Gallery one of the first practices in the country to offer this innovative treatment for young patients.
