Just this morning I was thinking about the first “REAL” pair of sunglasses I ever bought myself. It was 2003, I had been working as an optometrist in Minneapolis for just over a year, finally making an adult income. And it was summer. AND it was the type of day that I felt like I deserved to treat myself to something. So I popped into a cute optical in Uptown to visit my friend, Jason. I tried on a beautiful pair of Robert Marc sunglasses – a translucent gold color with gold mirrored lenses. And a perfect fit. It was love at first “sight”! The price….$450 – remember, this was over 20 years ago! But I splurged on myself and left with the windows open in my car and my new sunglasses keeping me cool.
I still have those sunglasses! I still love them! I still even wear them on occasion. I’ve added many more to my collection, but the point of this is……many people tell me they won’t spend money on sunglasses because they lose them. I understand that accidents happen, but when you invest in fit and quality and really love your sunglasses, you treat them with pride and believe me, you won’t carelessly lose them! I believe the reason I still have those gold sunglasses is because they fit great and the lenses are polarized for the sharpest, darkest tint. If they were “drugstore” sunglasses without polarization, a good fit, or with nosepads that fall off, I’m sure I would have lost them by now. But not my prized possession favorite pair!

Dr. McCulley graduated with honor from Boston College in 1997 with a bachelor of science and a major in Spanish and pre-medical studies. She then went on to study optometry and graduated with honors from the Southern College of Optometry in 2001. She has past experience from the University of Minnesota Department of Ophthalmology fitting specialty contact lenses and working with low vision patients. Dr. McCulley is experienced in pediatrics and has a keen interest in treating dry eye.
